Wasted Potential

As someone who watches a lot of reality television, you realize quite often that it can mostly be entertainment with very little educational value. But occasionally, a show will surprise you and give you something that really sticks with you, makes you think and motivates you to do more. For me, that recent lightbulb of inspiration derived from the new series on Netflix, ‘Owning Manhattan’.

If for some reason you are not familiar with the show, just imagine a reality show on selling real estate but, instead of 90% drama with very little real estate, you actually get to see real estate agents working to secure and close deals. It’s a fast paced, look at the real nuts and bolts of trying to make it in their world, run by the infamous Serhant company founder Ryan Serhant. The show gives you a look at both the wins and some of the losses involved in luxury real estate sales.

In one take from the show, Ryan is remembering something his grandfather once told him as they passed a cemetery. He basically explained to Ryan that ‘the cemetery was full of artists, athletes and some of the greatest people in the world, but you will never know who they are because cemeteries are full of wasted potential.’

Now think about that. How many of us have undisclosed dreams or talents that we have yet to reach? Not because we can’t, but because we haven’t even really tried. Instead, we make excuses, or keep saying tomorrow…. Do you want to be among those that just wasted all the potential you possess, or do you have it in you to go after it all with no excuses? Stop with the excuses and put in the real effort before its too late, we all know tomorrow is not promised.
